TCSA Teacher of the Year


The Texas Christian Schools Association has established a “Teacher of the Year” award to recognize outstanding contribution to Christian education by a member of the faculty of a school belonging to the Association. This award may recognize the cumulative effort or program advancing Christian education.

Criteria

  • Nominees must be employed at schools which are members of the Texas Christian Schools Association.

  • Nominations may be made by teachers, administrators, parents, or friends of TCSA member schools.

  • Nominations may be made for contribution to Christian education in any academic area or level of service and should be based on effort to further the scope of Christian education, community and family involvement in Christian education, effort to develop curriculum from a Christian perspective, work to help other educators teach from a Christian perspective, and demonstrated Christian impact on the lives of students. While nominees should demonstrate excellence in all aspects of their profession, the determining factor in selection will be a distinctive contribution to the uniquely Christian character of education in TCSA schools.

  • Nominations should be made in writing using the form provided by the Association and should include specific information about the nominee’s work, service, creativity, or other identifying contribution. Additional documentation may be provided such as statements by an administrator, co-teacher, parent, or student.

The Award

  • An Independent, standing selection committee will evaluate the nominations. Any committee members related to a nominee will not participate in the decision on this award.

  • A maximum stipend of $1,000 will accompany this award.

  • A plaque and a check for the award will be presented at the annual TCSA convention. At the presentation, a description of the recipient’s contribution to Christian education from the nominating statement or provided by the selection committee, will be made by the TCSA officer presenting the award.

Vaughn Luster Leadership Award


The Texas Christian School Association has established a “Vaughn Luster Leadership Award” to recognize those leaders who have made an outstanding leadership contribution to the Association. This award may recognize anyone in a leadership role whose cumulative work, programs, vision, or other efforts have been effective in advancing or enhancing Christian education.

Criteria

  • Nominees must be associated with schools that are members of the Texas Christian Schools Association. This may include but is not limited to administrators, faculty, staff, school board members, parents, students or other friends of Christian education.

  • Faculty, staff, administrators, parents, students or friends of TCSA member schools may make nominations.

  • Nominations may be made for outstanding leadership in Christian education, which by nature of the work, programs, vision, or other efforts has advanced or enhanced that education for all that follow. The determining factor in selection will be the distinctive contribution to the uniquely Christian character of education in TCSA schools.

  • Nominations should be made in writing using the form provided by the Association and should include specific information about the nominee’s work, service, programs, vision, or other identifying contributions. Additional documentation may be provided such as statements by an administrator, teacher, parent, student, board member, etc.

The Award

Dwain Hart Memorial Christian Education Scholarship


The Dwain Hart Memorial Christian Education Scholarship was established to honor the memory of Dr. Dwain Hart, who….

Criteria

  • Must be in 12th grade

  • Must have received at least ONE gold medal in any Texas Christian School Association Interscholastic Tournament (TCSIT) event within the last seven years

  • Must have participated in TCSIT for at least THREE years

  • Must have a good citizenship record

  • Must have a letter of recommendation from a faculty member, school administrator, or public person who has worked with the student in preparing for contest

  • Must submit a statement in the student’s own words about what Christian education has meant to him/her

TCSA schools that have a student who meets the selection criteria should assist him/her in completing the attached application and emailing or faxing it back to the current TCSA president no later than May 30 of the student’s senior year.

The TCSA president will be responsible for distributing the application and qualification criteria to each of the member schools annually in December. The selection will be made by an impartial TCSA committee appointed by the president and announced at the annual TCSA conference in August.

Christian Education Grant


The Texas Christian Schools Association has established a grant program to encourage teachers to develop projects which contribute to the advancement of the uniquely Christian character of education in TCSA schools.

Criteria

  • Applicants must be teachers at schools which are members of the Texas Christian Schools Association.

  • Projects should address the particular needs and goals of Christian schools. They may be developed in any curriculum subject or on any level to further the scope of Christian education. Projects may include study, research, or implementation of a program to improve skills of the teacher, students, or school in the curriculum area. An overarching aspect of the project should provide ways to develop this curriculum or teach this subject as it relates to a Christian world view. A determining factor in awarding the grant will be consideration of the project which has the most potential for enhancing Christian education generally.

  • Applicants must complete a written application using the form provided by the Association and should include a statement explaining the nature of the proposed project.

  • The application should give specific, concrete explanations of how the project will be conducted, how it will be evaluated, and how it will enhance Christian education.

  • The budget should be specific and detailed.

  • The recipient will be expected to share the results of the project by making a presentation at the annual TCSA convention. The application should explain the form the presentation will take and should tell when it will be made.

The Award

  • The maximum grant will be $1,500. The selection committee may award grants to more than one applicant as long as the total of all grants does not exceed $1,500 in one year. The committee may elect not to award the grant if no application meets the criteria above.

  • An independent, standing committee will evaluate the applications and make the award. Any committee member related to an applicant will not participate in the decision. The decision of this committee is final.

  • The TCSA president shall announce the grant recipient(s) at the annual convention, giving a brief description of the winning project(s), and will present the check(s) to the recipient(s).
